COLUMBIA, Mo. – Interim Chancellor and Provost Garnett Stokes announced today that Ann Campion Riley, acting director of MU Libraries, has been appointed to the new position of vice provost for libraries and university librarian, effective July 1.

Riley is a nationally recognized leader with nearly 30 years of professional service in academic and research libraries. She joined MU in 2007 as the associate director for access, collections and technical services and was appointed acting director of MU Libraries in July 2015. During her tenure, she has increased partnerships with other universities within the Association of American Universities and the Southeastern Conference. In addition, she has been instrumental in fundraising, including a recent student initiative designed to enhance library offerings and services.

“I am confident that Ann will continue to provide strong leadership for the MU Libraries,” Stokes said. “She is a true champion and has worked tirelessly to support and preserve the library services and information resources upon which MU faculty, students and staff have come to rely.”

Riley served as president of the Association of College and Research Libraries, representing more than 11,500 academic and research librarians, and was honored as a research library leadership fellow by the Association of Research Libraries.

“I want to thank Interim Chancellor and Provost Stokes for this opportunity to lead the MU Libraries,” Riley said. “The libraries play an integral role in the educational experience for our students and are a great resource for our faculty, staff and community. I am honored to work with our tremendous staff to chart our future and ensure continued access to our comprehensive resources and services.”

She earned a bachelor’s in English and master’s in library and information science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and a master’s in English from the University of Missouri-St. Louis.
