MEDIA ADVISORY: Mizzou Hosts Summer Leadership Academy to Inspire Future Leaders

WHAT:

The Truman Youth Leadership Academy, a one-week summer day camp for middle school students, will take place next week. Facilitated by the Truman School of Public Affairs and the Institute of Public Policy at the University of Missouri, the program aims to teach leadership skills, civic involvement and community service in the hopes of inspiring local youth to become today’s community leaders and tomorrow’s world leaders.

Topics such as positive body image, healthy friendships, volunteering, diversity and inclusion will be covered.

This is the sixth-annual Truman Youth Leadership Academy and up to 40 middle school students who are selected on a first-come, first-serve basis will be able to attend.

Activities include a community service project, and a visit to the Capitol and the Supreme Court of Missouri.

WHO:

Those participating are students entering the sixth, seventh or eighth grades.

Truman Youth Leadership Academy (MU campus)
9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Monday, June 25 – Friday, June 29

Service project at Flat Branch Park
10:15 a.m – noon
Wednesday, June 27

Columbia City Hall visit
1 – 3:15 p.m.
Wednesday, June 27

Missouri State Capitol visit
9:30 – 11:45 a.m., 1 – 3:15 p.m.
Friday, June 29
