COLUMBIA, Mo. – As part of the fiscal 2018 budget plan for the University of Missouri announced Friday, June 2, campus officials continued notifying employees whose positions are affected by budget cuts or plans to reorganize selected functions. Details on reorganization initiatives will be announced as they are finalized over the next few weeks.

“We are making bold and transformational changes for the future of our university,” MU Interim Chancellor and Provost Garnett Stokes said. “This requires us to make some difficult decisions that affect the lives of some very hardworking and valued individuals.”

A total of 307 administrative, faculty and staff positions have been eliminated to date. Of the 307 positions, 136 positions are vacant and will not be filled; 171 positions are being eliminated through attrition, retirements or layoffs. MU also is eliminating an additional 86 positions in auxiliary units of Student Affairs and Athletics. Auxiliary units are those divisions and departments that receive no funding from state revenue or tuition and rely on self-generated revenue.

Benefit-eligible employees with at least one year of service who are being laid off may be eligible to participate in the university’s Transition Assistance Program.
